John Cahit Akbulut
Mr. Akbulut was born in the city of Giresun in 1957. He completed his law study at Istanbul University Law Faculty in 1980 and he moved to the United States right after that. Then he continued advance law study at New York University and sat New York State bar. After completion of his study, he started to work with a New York law firm for fourteen years, and then he started my his practice in 1998. Last twelve years he has been running his own law office. He has been married more than 30 years and has two boys, one is about to finish his law school and the other one just started his second year of law school.>>

DHL

DHL, which was founded in San Francisco, USA, in 1969 by three young entrepreneurs, Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn, has grown rapidly and become the leader of international express air freight and logistics industry today.

Combining its international experience in express air - ocean - land freight and contract logistics solutions with its expertise in domestic markets, DHL operates in 229 countries with its 285,000 trained personnel. Providing service for 120,000 different locations, DHL delivers 1.5 billion shipments worldwide per year. Having 4.2 million customers all over the world, DHL continues its operations successfully with its 76,000 vehicles and 6,500 facilities. DHL, which has a storage space of over three million m², possesses one of the largest fleet of airplanes in the world with more than 400 planes, and is a 100 percent Deutsche Post World Net organization.

In Turkey, DHL provides services with its four main units: DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Exel Supply Chain and DHL Freight.

Having started to operate in Turkey in 1981, DHL Express is the founder of express air freight industry in our country, which is also true for the rest of the world. Maintaining its leading position since its establishment and continuing to provide the first examples of many products and services in the industry, DHL Express is defined as reliable, innovative, pioneer, rapid and leader in the eyes of its customers. With a market share of over 50 percent in Turkey, DHL Express adopts meeting customer needs with its customer-oriented approach as a principle. With its specialized staff of 750 persons, 350 vehicles and approximately 40 offices all over Turkey, DHL Express Turkey embraces 65 percent of the population.

On the other hand, following the acquisition of Exel by Deutsche Post as of the end of 2005, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean, which has been operating in air and ocean freight industry in Turkey since 2003, has started to offer services under DHL Global Forwarding brand and continued its leading position in the market since then. Adopting customer satisfaction as a principle, DHL Global Forwarding Turkey has maintained its top ranking in IATA list, achieved in air freight in 2007, and risen to the top position as a forwarder in full and groupage (LCL) container freight. Expanding its customer portfolio day by day in accordance with the developments it has seized in imports and exports in industrial terms, in parallel with foreign trade figures of the country, DHL Global Forwarding is able to address all types of industries thanks to its service diversity and geographical superiority. DHL Global Forwarding creates a difference for its customers with its motivated and dynamic staff of 210 persons rendering services all over Turkey and their offices located in six different provinces where foreign trade operations are intensive.

As of the end of 2005, the largest logistical merger in the world took place with the acquisition of Exel by DHL. Operating under the title of DHL Exel Supply Chain today, the company provides supply chain management services from one single source and functions as a general and unbiased contractor. DHL Exel Supply Chain not only enables improvements in terms of visibility, transparency and service standards (punctuality, error-free business and cycle time) for its customers, but ensures that personnel and shipment costs are reduced and complex aspect of the process is simplified, as well. In order to offer better and more quality services to its customers, DHL Exel Supply Chain enables increase in efficiency by providing other expanded supply chain services as well as warehousing, distribution and value-added services. Providing service with its 650 employees, 170 vehicles and warehousing spaces of 160,000 m² in Turkey, DHL Exel Supply Chain performs operations particularly in the sectors of health, textile, automotive, retail, technology and consumer products.

Operating in Turkey since 2004, DHL Freight offers partial, groupage and full land freight services for all European countries and the Middle East. DHL Freight, which offers services in its own offices in all European and the Middle Eastern countries, has 160 terminals. Providing value-added land freight services (express freight services, hazardous substance freight, warehouse services, fair transportation services, customs services), DHL Freight offers services to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy, Greece and all the Middle Eastern countries (except for Iran, Iraq and Israel) with its distinguished partial/groupage freight solutions and competitive transit times. With its extensive potential of supplying equipment and vehicles, DHL Freight offers solutions to its customers in the area of full truck freight, as well.

DHL has also adopted participating in social responsibility projects it has extended across the country as a corporate value. For instance, by supporting sports and cultural activities the company demonstrates the degree of importance it attaches to arts and sports. By cooperating with Multi-Purpose Community Centers (CATOM) and UNICEF, it reveals how much attention it pays to children, and by participating in environmental projects it displays how much it cares about nature.

* With its Promotion Campaign in Turkey, DHL Express Turkey gained the Golden Compass Award granted by TUHID (Turkish Public Relations Association) in 2007.
* DHL Express Turkey was selected as 5th best company in Central and Eastern Europe and 3rd best company of Turkey in Hewitt’s Best Employers Research in 2007.
* DHL Express Turkey earned awards in the categories of IMI Call Center - the Best Call Center and the Best Call Center Environment in 2007.
* DHL Express Turkey was selected as the Most Successful Freighter in a research entitled Ones Who Made Their Marks on the Industry conducted by the Dunya daily in 2007.
* DHL Global Forwarding has maintained its top position in IATA list of air cargo freight since January 2007. Displaying the same successful performance in the area of ocean freight as well, DHL has risen to the top position as a forwarder in full and groupage (LCL) container freight in the world.
